The S8R is a FrSky X-series receiver with built in 3-axis stabilization. For conventional Fixed Wing and Glider Models it will support stabilization, automatic level, hover and Knife-edge flight modes, for Delta Wings or flying wings and V-tail models it supports stabilization and automatic level flight modes. You can edit the type of model and manipulate all these features via the S8R.Config or S8R.lua. The S8R can also be used as a standard 8 channel X series receiver if it is required.

It's an excellent receiver, it works flawlessly with my Taranis X9D on Open TX 2.1.9.
When using the stabilization it works as an 8 channel receiver, but will use 12 channels internally to access the different settings and modes from the transmitter. Because of that, don't forget to bind the receiver in D16 mode with at least 12 channels active, or it will not work.
The stabilization system works well but can be somewhat tricky to setup. the Frsky manual is a bit short about the settings and I strongly recommend to read the RC Group thread dedicated to this receiver.
The FrSky STK Tool (https://www.horusrc.com/en/frsky-stk.html) is also needed to configure this receiver and eventually upgrade its firmware. (Posted on 5/9/2017)
